What should I do if my water heater is leaking from the top?

Turn off power or gas, close the cold-water shutoff, and schedule service right away. Top leaks usually come from the cold inlet, hot outlet, or the T&P valve connection. We’ll diagnose, repair, and test your water heater, and we service all brands and tankless units. Same-day and 24/7 emergency plumbing are available in Scottsdale and Phoenix. Exact pricing depends on inspection; a technician confirms costs on site.

  • Flip the breaker (electric) or set gas control to Off/Pilot.
  • Close the cold-water valve above the tank.
  • Don’t tighten fittings on a hot tank.
